Apologia: Physical Science

Physical Science is about to begin several modules on Air.  This week, my goal is for the class to do a timeline on the scientists who contributed to the development of the Atomic Theory: Democritus, LaVoisier, Dalton, JJ Thomson, Rutherford, Bohr, Shrodinger, and Chadwick.  They should also finish the three experiments in Module Two, and start the 'foldable' on the layers of Air.  If time permits, the kids can work on another concept map: smoke stack, scrubbers, catalytic converters, lead, 'Dirty Half Dozen', Air Pollution, SOx, ozone, O3, carbon monoxide, CO, carbon dioxide, CO2, argon, Ar, oxygen, O2, nitrogen, N2, Composition of Air, saturated, relative humidity, absolute humidity, humidity, air, sulfur dioxides, heat index, ppm, parts per million, Global Warming, Greenhouse Effect, nitrogen dioxides, NOx, and EPA.  Yippee!  The kids do not like concept maps; they are terrific to ensure an understanding of the terms and how the key ideas relate to one another.  An online site to creat concept maps is at www.ihmc.us/. Look at the tab marked cmap tools.  I want the class to be able to create a timeline on graph paper with intervals, assemble a foldable on Air, and put the module's key terms into a concept map.  Obviously, this will take some time.  Anticipate some moaning.
