I’m looking for a few fresh ideas to breathe more life into my Chemistry curriculum. One idea is the Percent Composition of a Cookie. Here are the class instructions. Here is sample data. Please note the regular Oreo cookie’s percent composition will differ from a double-stuffed cookie. Below is a screenshot with the percent composition of cream in both original cookie and the double-stuffed cookie.
My plan is to use Oreo Percent Composition and follow up with some practice, such as this worksheet and the Percent Composition Hydrate Lab, also described here. The teens struggle with these calculations. We’ll see if Oreos help increase their understanding.
