Recently I mentioned NASA’s Space Art Challenge. Are there similar image collections? Yes! Here’s my take on creating an instant lesson from a scientific image—sketch it! Do you have a talented artist? Any medium works! Create a file for your digital portfolio marked Art. Take photos of finished sketches along with the original image. Be sure to add a note about the image, such as the Allen Institute’s collection.
1. HHMI has Using Images as Phenomena. The Educator’s materials have links to images. Basically the lesson is to ask teens what the image is.
