Instant Science: Chemistry in a Bag!

Let’s do more science in a bag!  Some of these are more instant than others!  First is  Ice Cream in a Bag.  Cream is nice; however plain milk will freeze, too.  Try Making Ice Cream with non-dairy creamers.  Who knew?  Pop I a freeze pop, add rock salt and ice.  Try a Kool-Aid Slushie, too. Below are fun ways to use plastic bags and create an instant science experiment!  (Here is a deep dive into freezing point depression.)

Next up are Baggie Reactions.  Ask the chemistry student to write and balance these reactions. Yes, your kiddos will want to make Exploding Bags.

HST calls this experiment, Contain Your Excitement.  I know it as Flinn’s Reaction in a Bag—a classic! We like to do the lab with phenol red or universal indication—both produce interesting results.  Yes, if time permits, we do the reactions with both indicator solutions.
