Would you add more science to your curriculum if it were easy? File these away! You can use ‘grab and go’ activities to supplement science, enrich Friday Funday!, or form sub plans. You need sub plans. There will be days when you’re sick as a dog and your cheerful children are not. Have a bin of sub plans!
1. 4-H Grab and Go Art and Math, patterns , and cat shape require watercolors, paper, pen, colored pencils, ruler, glue stick, scissors, and index cards. Here are more tessellations.
2. 4-H Animal Science Guide is a mini-unit requiring simple equipment below. The activities range from making a spine, notching pig ears, to creating a clay model of ruminant digestion. (Here is a model of a rumen with a diagram.)
3. Take-Home STEM Kit has ten activities which require 21 items: play doh, craft sticks, pencils, straws, spoons, pom poms, and the like. Have you seen the paper bags with activities at the library? Our library has both adult and kiddo paper bag activities. Announce to your kiddos there is a scavenger hunt for the 21 items. Collect them in a box. Book mark the page.
4. STEM-Lit to Go! (overview) combine STEM with books—an instant unit study! Many lessons are from Picture Perfect Science Lessons. Make up mini-kits based on the books available from the library. Does this take more work? It does. However, you’ll have weeks and weeks of grab and go activities for Fun Day Friday!
