I should have thought about LEGO education sets sooner. Good Will often has deeply discounted kits. We sent Paul to a LEGO Education Camp once. Sadly, the instructor read the directions aloud as the kids built different objects, step by step. The kids had to perform each step at the same time. Ouch. LEGO has many of the instruction manuals online, such as #9689, Early Simple Machines, Wedo 2.0, or #200480, SPIKE Prime Support, shown below. LEGO has Teacher Resources, too. If your kiddo is obsessed with LEGOs, these kits might be a good match.
eBay has loads of LEGO Education kits, typically at much higher prices.
The LEGO Boost and Droid Commander allow kids to code the toy after you finish building the model. While both are discontinued, there are still LEGO apps available which work with both Boost products, now heavily discounted because they’re discontinued.
