Chemistry experiments are so much fun! The trick is to find fun experiments the kids can do independently, with just a little supervision. I have a few ideas.
1. Skip the slime; make a Bouncing Ball instead. Once you get the solid, trying dipping it into the borax solution to get it to form a ball.
2. Save recycled #6 plastic containers to make Super Shrinkers. Another classic is Colors on the Mooove.
3. Two more classics are Benzoic Acid Blizzard (or glitter) and Lava Lamp. Since you are saving bottles and jars, you may as well make Cartesian Divers.
4. Make crystals: Epsom Salts, Alum, Salt, or Sugar. Amazon sells copper sulfate for Big Copper Sulfate Crystals. Usually we use these instructions for alum crystals. Be sure to coat the egg shell with a little white glue. Crystals take a few days, especially Mrs.Stewart’s Bluing Salt Crystal Garden, another classic.
5. Sun prints or Anthotype Printing with Tumeric is another gem. Compare results with sun print paper. This project require quite a few materials and definitely some supervision. You can still buy the liquid sensitized set and Sun print fabric.
