The kids in the Biology Co-op class are comparing bacteria, algae, yeast, and viruses using this chart. Largely, the kids are using their textbooks for the information. (Yes, they would rather use Google.) It gives them practice with the glossary and index while forcing them to read. Here is the link for the spreadsheet so you can modify it as desired.
You may want to compare organisms in a Six Kingdom model. We’re going to compare different animal phyla in a chart, too. Here is a guide to help kids get started on their charts. Here is a good animal phyla comparison chart. Another model frequently used with younger kiddos is MRS C GREN. I made a simple chart for the six kingdom model.
