This lab can be confusing. You are trying to determine how well a metal holds its Heat. Aluminum holds heat poorly; cast iron holds heat well. Here is blog post with tips; number one is boil the metals at least five minutes—longer is fine. This post has two videos. Here is the post about calculations. Here and here are slideshows. eScience has this lab, Enthalpy and Specific Heat,. The lab has a data table and two extension labs using an instant cold pack and a hand warmer packet.
