By far the most popular topic or theme at Science Camp is Chemistry. I taught Chemistry professionally; you may be more hesitant about chemical experiments. The American Chemical Society (ACS) has resources for elementary-aged kids. Look at Celebrating Chemistry! This issue, Fast or Slow, has experiments with pop rocks, glow sticks, and apples browning. Look at Candy Chemistry. ACS also has Adventures in Chemistry and Inquiry in Action. I usually do Colorful Lather Prints and let the kids play with Red Cabbage indicator. I have citric acid, baking soda, mild detergent, vinegar, in solution. The kids add a bit of red cabbage indicator to watch solutions change color. Try Homemade Glue. Flinn has several experiments for kids to try related to Chemistry. Here are vidios. Another favorite is Reaction in a Bag.
The NISE Network has the Do Chemistry Kit! There are activities, detailed safety guides for the activities, and extensive training—all on the website. Look at some of the other resources at the NISE Network, such as Kitchen Chemistry. There scripts and training videos. You can safely add several fun experiments to Science Camp!
