Mad Science Camp: How does the Fountain Connection toy work?

My husband, Rob, teaches Physics.  I can handle Physical Science; my brain shuts off whenever we skirt more advanced Physics.  We made Tornados and a Fountain.  Rob asked me how the fountain works.  Here is an explanation.  Below is a video explanation.
