Cell Analogy Class Activity

My kids are completing their Cell Analogies.  Let me show you an example.  Two kids chose Kings Dominion Amusement part and used this guide with this Cell Structure slideshow.  The kids began with this map of Kings Dominion.  The kids assign the organelles to areas in the amusement park.  The kids decided the head quarters were the nucleus.  I challenged them to consider what is located at head quarters: ticket sales, website design, social media, ride management, Human Resources, etc.  The kids decided which part of the nucleus aligned with the various functions in the head quarters.  This is a 20-30 minute activity.  I had the kids produce a simple sketch.  The example is below.  Analogies force kids to think about the cell’s organelles’ functions.  This is not an art project.
