Apologia Chemistry: Lesson 1

This Fall, the Chemistry Co-op class will meet twice a week, one hour per session by video.  The first lesson is all about the Periodic Table, the basics.  Why?  The Summer Assignment is to make element cards.  The kids need to learn the names for fifty elements.  I like them to color code and annotate blank periodic tables with the names of each group or family.  Here is a good slideshow, if you ignore the video store analogy.  (Do kids know what Blockbuster was?). Here are instructions for the Periodic Table Coloring Activity.  Below is a screenshot of the Classroom post for Lesson 1.  The first lesson will just be checking to see everyone has finished the elements cards, understands which elements to memorize, and annotates blank periodic tables.  BTW, my kids learn about Pnictogens and Chalcogens.
