Magic Rock Crystals

Do you remember  Magic Rock Crystal Growing Set?  Flinn has the lab here.  The liquid in Magic Rocks is sodium silicate or water glass.  Sodium silicate is a skin irritant; it can also dry out exposed skin.  Here are other metallic salts which make colorful crystals in sodium silicate or water glass.  You can use the water glass and ethyl alcohol to make bouncy balls.  Warning!  These bouncy balls will eventually shatter everywhere.
