Apologia Chemistry Module 11: Solutions and Koolaid Concentration Lab
My kids are doing the Koolaid Concentration Lab to learn how to prepare and dilute stock solutions, in this case, a stock solution of Kool-aid. For this lab purposes, we are using moles of sucrose, granulated, white sugar, to calculate molarity—-not the Koolaid packet added. We are treating the Kool-aid powder as dye. The molar mass of sucrose is about 342 g/mol—depending how you round or do not round the molar masses. The other issue is the mass of sucrose in a cup: 200-215 grams per cup. Arrrgggghhhh! Take a look at the video for more instructions and issues related to this lab.
