Apologia Chemistry: Module 2 Energy, Heat, and Temperature

 I usually combine Module 2 with Module 13, Thermodynamics.  This year, I’m following the textbook. My kids are doing Experiment 2.1 Calibrating Your Thermometer and creating a heating curve.  Here are data they can graph to compare with the data they capture with the lab.  

Once the kids calibrate the thermometer, pour the ice water into a pan on the stove.  Check the temperature every minute until the water boils.  Let the water boil a few minutes and record the temperatures.  My kids graph the data.  It can help to practice graphing with the data first. Remember to remove the thermometer as you check the temperature.  A class thermometer can burst if left on the stove in the pan of water.
