My Biology and Life Science classes dissect. However, if a child has sensory issues or personal objections, I permit virtual or paper dissections. Your budget may preclude buying specimens. If you are doing virtual or paper dissections, treat them as if they were lab specimens. HST sells earthworms and dissection guides. Biology Junction has a detailed guide to use with a lab specimen or virtual earthworm dissection. This lab guide requires a sketch and has loads of questions. Use it in the same manner as a live, lab dissection. Download or open several guides.
A brief note about paper dissections. Getting Nerdy sells an earthworm paper model. They look terrific. I think they cost too much. Instead, sketch, print images, and make a poster or slideshow describing the parts of the earthworm with their functions. Use public domain images such as these earthworm images or the one shown below.
