Virtual and Alternative Dissections Round-up

 Okay, let’s just post a bunch of alternatives to dissecting with specimens.  Here is a long list which includes software to purchase and Getting Nerdy paper dissections.  Here  is a free paper frog dissection. Blessed Learners has an updated list here.  Another choice is to watch animal dissection videos.  Here is a free interactive grasshopper dissection from the Entomology department at Iowa State.  Here is a statict, virtual lab of a crayfish dissection with nice images.  Some dissection guides, like this one, have enough images, you could use the worksheet in lieu of the specimen.  Make posters.  Here is some inspiration.  Talk it over with your teen when you make a rubric for the poster project.  Should there be sketches?  Diagrams?  An informational chart?  Give the poster some substance.  If you chose alternatives to dissection, sketch, make notes, complete dissection guides.  Keep your notes, guides, etc in a lab folder with your lab notebook.  Some colleges and online schools want evidence of labs.  Prepare a paper explaining your reason for using alternative dissections.  Below is the image source.
